(C)Counselling engagements

Counselling engagements.

Each engagement at Ivybridge Counselling is a defined number of sessions for a fixed total fee, paid in full at booking. There is no subscription, no auto-renewal, no rolling commitment.

Discovery Conversation

The Discovery Conversation is the recommended first step for new clients to the practice. It is a single 60-minute online session, paid as a one-off £90 booking. The conversation gives us both a chance to consider, without pressure, whether this practice is the right fit before any longer engagement is agreed.

Within the session itself, no further commitment is made. I won't ask you to book a longer engagement on the call, and there is no upsell. After the session I send a short written follow-up within one working day, summarising what was discussed and outlining either a recommended next step here, or — if a different kind of support would serve you better — an honest signpost to that instead.

(C.2)Short Focused Engagement
(II)

Short Focused Engagement

A focused short engagement of four sessions held over four to six weeks. It suits clients who have a fairly bounded transition in mind — a single decision point, a specific period of adjustment, or a recent change that needs a structured space in which to be thought through carefully but not extensively.

The engagement begins with a written intake, then four 60-minute sessions held weekly to fortnightly. It closes with a written session summary you keep. What fits inside four sessions is a focused piece of work; what doesn't is the slower, deeper layering that a longer engagement allows. If at the end of the engagement we both feel a longer piece of work would be helpful, you can book one explicitly — there is no rolling continuation.

(C.3)Transitional engagement
(III)

Transitional Counselling Engagement

The most-booked engagement at this practice. Eight 60-minute sessions held over eight to ten weeks, with a written intake at the start and a written session summary at the close. Designed to give a transition enough time to be examined patiently — without the pressure of a short ticking clock or the open-endedness that can sometimes blur the work.

Typical clients booking this engagement are several months into a separation, the slower months following a bereavement, an empty-nest adjustment, or an identity shift after a major life change. The engagement is paced weekly to begin and may move to fortnightly in the second half if the work calls for it.

The eight-session structure is long enough for the work to deepen and short enough to remain bounded — the practical middle the practice is built around.

(C.4)Extended Support Engagement
(IV)

Extended Support Engagement

A longer engagement of twelve sessions held across twelve to sixteen weeks. Suitable when the transition you are moving through has more than one moving part — for example a separation that is also bringing a relocation, or a bereavement adjustment that is overlapping with a significant change in role or living situation.

The additional depth twelve sessions allow is real but not infinite. It gives time for the early sessions to settle, for the middle of the engagement to do its slower work, and for the closing sessions to draw a clear thread through what has shifted.

A mid-engagement review is built in around session six. We pause briefly to look at where the work is, what feels useful, and what the second half might most usefully focus on. The closing written summary draws together what surfaced across the full engagement and is yours to keep.

(C.5)Six-month engagement
(V)

Six-Month Counselling Engagement

The longest engagement this practice offers. Twenty-four sessions held across six months — designed for clients moving through major or compounded transitions, where more than one significant change is unfolding at the same time, or where the work calls for the kind of unhurried pacing only a longer engagement allows.

Typical clients booking this engagement are in the longer aftermath of a profound life shift — a bereavement that has reshaped the structure of daily life, a separation overlapping with a relocation and a career change, or a series of adjustments that have arrived in close succession and now ask for a steady, sustained space in which to be thought through.

Sessions are held weekly to begin, moving to fortnightly in the second half of the engagement as the work settles. A mid-engagement review is built in at month three. A final written summary is produced at the close, drawing together the full arc of the work over the six months. The total fee of £910 is paid in full at the start of the engagement.
